Company Profile

East Pierce Fire & Rescue

Company Overview

East Pierce Fire & Rescue (EPFR) is a rapidly growing fire district, centered around the communities of Bonney Lake, Sumner, Lake Tapps, South Prairie, Edgewood and Milton. Located just 45 miles south of Seattle and 20 miles east of Tacoma, the 153-square mile district delivers services to urban, suburban, and rural areas located within 153-square miles. With 151 career firefighters including 57 paramedics, we provide fire, EMS, and rescue service to approximately 100,500 residents, along with BLS and ALS transport. Call volume in 2022 was 12,653.

EPFR is led by Chief Jon Parkinson. Four Assistant Chiefs oversee the Operations, EMS, Logistics, & Prevention Divisions. We place a strong focus on operations and training to ensure response readiness. This is emphasized in our four Special Operations Teams: HazMat, Technical Rescue, Water Rescue and Wildland Firefighting. We are not the traditional fire department, we are an all-hazards agency committed to customer service, public education/prevention, and truly being a regional leader.

Located in the Pacific NW, we serve one of the most beautiful areas in the country. With a popular recreational lake and close proximity to the mountains, Puget Sound, Seattle and Tacoma, the area provides a variety of recreational activities. You will find easy access to trails for biking and hiking, ski resorts, lakes and rivers for fishing and boating, shopping, dining, and entertainment opportunities. Even with continued growth, our area has maintained its small town feel, with friendly people and a sense of community.
