Description
Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, providing essential emergency medical services and life-saving care. This role focuses on delivering Basic Life Support (BLS), including patient assessment, airway management, and the use of automatic defibrillators. The Advanced EMT will also assist patients with medication administration and ensure safe ambulance operation under all conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and continuously monitor patient conditions, applying rescue interventions as per established protocols when direct medical control is unavailable.
- Utilize critical thinking to evaluate patient needs and plan appropriate care.
- Delegate patient care tasks to First Responders within their scope and assess their performance.
- Collaborate effectively with Paramedics and other emergency personnel, maintaining tasks within the EMT scope of practice.
- Demonstrate proficiency in airway management techniques such as King Airway insertion, C-PAP, oral/nasal airways, and Autovent use.
- Apply splinting methods including ladder, SAM, board, and traction splints, and perform spinal motion restriction.
- Coordinate patient care with healthcare teams and emergency services, providing clear and concise handoff reports to receiving facilities.
- Operate ambulance safely and efficiently following organizational policies.
- Adhere to infection control procedures and safe patient handling techniques.
- Document patient care accurately using required reporting forms.
- Maintain effective communication with other departments and emergency services.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an approved state EMT program is mandatory.
Experience
One year of EMT experience preferred but not required.
Certifications and Licenses
Current state EMT license required. BLS and PHTLS certifications are mandatory, with PHTLS and a Class E driver's license to be obtained within six months of hire. Must maintain a valid Class E driver's license.
Mental and Physical Requirements
This position demands considerable mental focus and physical stamina, including lifting up to 50 pounds, frequent walking, standing, sitting, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching. Extended driving and managing stressful, traumatic situations are also part of the role.
Working Conditions
Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and potentially hostile individuals. Regular contact with communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids. Minimal physical discomfort expected.
